File Transfer Protocol, or FTP, was one of the original ways to send and receive files over the Internet. Security is greatly lacking, though, as passwords are transmitted in clear text. ECN had come up with an implementation of an FTP service which did not rely on one’s private Purdue Career Account credentials. But I had difficulty understanding how to use the ECN implementation — which made it difficult to guide faculty and staff in its use.
Existing documentation didn’t help me understand how the service was supposed to work, so I rewrote it from scratch and separated it into two articles. The first article targeted the people outside of Purdue who wanted to receive files from, or send files to, a Purdue colleague.
